This study conducted a qualitative meta-synthesis of 15 domestic qualitative studies to comprehensively understand the shame experience and recovery process of spousal suicide survivors, following the procedures of meta-ethnography. The experiences of spousal suicide survivors were integrated into a five-stage process: Sudden Onset of Shame, Internalization of Shame and Onset of Isolation, Aggressive Transformation of Shame, Reframing of Shame, and Coexistent Recovery. Shame emerged as a structural emotion encompassing moral, relational, religious, and existential dimensions, while silence and anger functioned as defensive responses and transitional processes toward subsequent phases. Recovery was not characterized by the elimination of shame, but rather by a form of coexistent recovery in which shame was reframed and integrated into one¡¯s life narrative. This study provides practical implications for shame-focused counseling interventions and postvention programs.
