This study investigated the roles of child-contingent self-worth and shame in the relationship between parents¡¯ self-differentiation and psychological control among parents of adolescents. Data from 424 parents of children aged 9 to 17 were collected through an online survey and analyzed using SPSS Statistics 26 and SPSS PROCESS Macro 4.2. Results showed that self-differentiation influenced psychological control through the mediating effect of child-contingent self-worth, and that shame significantly moderated this relationship. A significant moderated mediation effect was also found in the pathway from self-differentiation to psychological control. These findings highlight the psychological mechanisms linking self-differentiation to psychological control and suggest implications for counseling practice and future research.
