This study examined whether self-blame and anxiety control serially mediated the relationship between incompleteness and obsessive-compulsive tendency among undergraduate students. Participants were 350 undergraduates (159 men, 191 women) from six universities in Gwangju and Jeonnam. Using SPSS 31.0 and PROCESS macro 4.2 (Models 4 and 6), correlation and mediation (including serial mediation) analyses were conducted. Incompleteness was positively associated with self-blame and obsessive-compulsive tendency and negatively associated with anxiety control; self-blame was negatively associated with anxiety control and positively associated with obsessive-compulsive tendency. Anxiety control showed a significant partial mediating effect in the incompleteness–obsessive-compulsive tendency link. In addition, the serial indirect effect of incompleteness on obsessive-compulsive tendency via self-blame and anxiety control was significant. Overall, higher incompleteness was related to increased self-blame, which was associated with weakened anxiety control and, in turn, stronger obsessive-compulsive tendency.
