This study was conducted to explore what participants experienced during embodied movement counseling sessions based on somatic movement, and how they changed through the process. Embodied movement counseling is a body-based therapeutic approach that facilitates integrated awareness of sensation, emotion, and cognition. This study examined the process by which clients experienced psychological change through bodily experiences. The participants were three adult women, all schoolteachers, and the counseling was conducted over five 90-minute weekly sessions using four somatic movement elements: ¡°Head–Tail Connectivity,¡± ¡°Core-Distal, Connectivity¡±, ¡°Upper-Lower Connectivity¡± and ¡°Cross-Lateral Connectivity.¡± Data were collected through in-session interviews and post-session IPR interviews, and analyzed using Giorgi¡¯s descriptive phenomenological method. The analysis yielded four core themes: ¡°Emotional Release,¡± ¡°Self-Acceptance and Integration,¡± ¡°Attempting Change Based on Inner Understanding,¡± and ¡°Becoming Comfortable and Spontaneous in Relationships,¡± comprising eight subthemes and 24 meaning units. This study suggests the potential of embodiment-focused counseling interventions and may serve as foundational data for the development and application of somatic-based counseling programs in practice.
