This study phenomenologically examined the experiences of counselors working with perpetrators of domestic violence, with the aim of identifying difficulties in the counseling process and exploring effective support measures. In-depth interviews were conducted with seven counselors at a Domestic Violence Integrated Support Center, yielding 19 academic meanings and 8 integrated themes. Counselors reported exposure to threatening situations with court- and police-referred perpetrators and emphasized the need for institutional safeguards to ensure their safety. They also experienced emotional exhaustion when dealing with perpetrators¡¯ negative attitudes and emotions, underscoring the importance of establishing support systems to mitigate such strain. In addition, counselors felt a strong sense of responsibility for counseling outcomes, indicating the necessity of shifting toward a more process-oriented perspective. Education and supervision to enhance professional competence, as well as societal recognition of counselors¡¯ roles, were found to be insufficient. These findings suggest directions for improving counseling environments and support systems for domestic violence counseling, and provide foundational data for future research involving counselors with diverse backgrounds.
