This study empirically examined the transitional characteristics and life satisfaction of middle-aged women and tested the mediating role of meaning in life in the relationship between family functioning and life satisfaction. Data were collected from 309 Korean women through an online survey and analyzed using the PROCESS macro for mediation. Family functioning positively influenced meaning in life (B = .92, p < .001), which in turn predicted life satisfaction (B = .36, p < .001). Both the total effect (B = .76, p < .001) and the direct effect (B = .43, p < .001) of family functioning on life satisfaction were significant, and the partial mediating effect of meaning in life was confirmed through bootstrapping (B = .33, 95% CI [.22, .44]).
These findings provided empirical evidence for family- and meaning-centered counseling interventions to enhance the life satisfaction of middle-aged women.
