The purpose of this study was to examine whether college students' awareness of gender equality changes as they participate in the gender teaching model based on communication and cooperation. To do this, a 'communication and gender' liberal arts class was designed based on the three-stage gender teaching model, and the 'Korean Men's and Women's Equality Awareness Test', which consists of four areas: family life, educational life, social culture, and professional life, was used to confirm college students¡¯ awareness of gender equality. As a result, the overall awareness of gender equality changed positively after participating in the class compared to before participating in the class based on the gender teaching model, and positive changes were also seen in each area, consistent with the overall results. These results suggest that participation in gender classess that emphasize communication and cooperation competencies among the competencies to be developed by college students has a positive effect on cultivating gender equality awareness, and this gender teaching model is appropriate in forming desirable values regarding gender conflict.
