The purpose of this study is to develop a Need Strength Inventory that measures the five basic needs suggested by William Glasser, the founder of reality therapy. The Need Strength Inventory consists of five categories: achievement needs, belonging needs, freedom needs, fun needs, and survival needs. In this study, preliminary questions were selected through prior research and pre-test. As a result of exploratory factor analysis, 25 items of 5 factors that satisfy factor loading (>.5), cross loading (<.32), commonality (>.5), and reliability (>.8) were extracted. A confirmatory factor analysis was performed to confirm the exploratory factor analysis model. CMIN/DF (2.664), RMSEA (.065), TLI (.935), and CFI (.942) met the criteria to confirm model fit, and convergent validity and discriminant validity were also confirmed. Also, similar to the Need Strength Inventory, the criterion-related validity was confirmed through the Driver Scale and Resilience Scale, which measure the causes of individual behavior. In conclusion, the significance and limitations of this study and suggestions for follow-up studies were made.
