<Abstract>
The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between factors that can reinforce career preparation behaviors in uncertain and ambiguous career situations of college students majoring in counseling. This study thus sought to confirm the structural relationship between promotion and prevention regulatory focus and career adaptability, and career preparation behavior, and to verify the effectiveness of career adaptability's mediation of regulatory focus and career preparation behavior. To that end, this study analyzed the data of 305 students enrolled in the 4-year counseling department. It was thus revealed that the promotion regulatory focus influenced the career behavior through the mediation of career adaptability, and the prevention regulatory focus had no mediating effect. The promotional regulatory focus, which motivates one to reach one's goals and expect positive outcomes, means that even if one's career situations are ambiguous and difficult, they can improve their career adaptability to perform specific career preparation behaviors. This study is meaningful in that it provides basic data necessary for the provision of counseling and educational services that promote resource development that can help college students majoring in counseling overcome and solve difficult career problems or crisis situations.
